I make my releases without surround-sound audio, since it eats up a ton of space, and so my rips can be compatible with the Xbox 360 and PS3. Here's how to get 5.1 again. If you have issues with any part of this guide, uninstall all your codecs and codec packs and install the CCCP!! First, you need to get an AC3 audio file with the 5.1 audio. You can get one by downloading a rip with AC3 audio, and then extracting it out. Here's a guide on merging 2CD rips so you can get one AVI: http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/join_avi_files_with_vbr_mp3_audio_using_virtualdubmod.cfm Once you've done that (if it was necessary), time to extract out the audio. Open the AVI with VirtualDubMod, and go to the Streams menu. Choose Stream List, click on the AC3 audio, and click Demux. Save it as a .ac3 file. Now, skip past the next series of steps until you get to "Once you have..." Alternately, you can make a 5.1 AC3 by having your computer make educated guesses as to the other channels in the surround-sound. First, download and install YAMB. Go to Editing (left-hand side pane), and click on extract streams. Open my rip. You should see two listings under Content. The second one should say "AAC LC" in the description. Click it, change the option to Extract to MP4, and click Next. There should be a new file in that directory with the mp4 extension: it's the audio only. Now, download and install MeGUI. Open the new audio MP4 in Audio Input. Change the codec to FFMPEG AC-3 (if you see Aften, use that). Click Config, and change the Bitrate to 448. Change the Output Channels to one of the Upmix 2 to 5.1... options. SuperEQ is very slow, but effective, and Sox is also good. Try them out. If you run into problems later, try enabling DirectShow decoding. Click OK, and then click Enqueue. If you've never used MeGUI before, go to the Workers menu and Create new worker (doesn't matter what its name is). Now, go to the Queue tab, and Start. It may take a while to start; don't panic. Once it's done, you will have a 5.1 AC3 audio file. Once you have your 5.1 AC3, through either method, you need to get it into a container. Refer to the above steps for installing MeGUI. Now, go to the Tools menu, Muxer, and MKV muxer. Choose my rip for the Video Input, choose the AC3 audio for the audio input, give it a place to save the finished MKV, and set splitting options if you want. Click Queue, go to the Queue tab, and Start. You'll get an MKV file with the video and 5.1 AC3 audio :) From there, you can use ConvertXtoDVD to make a DVD if you wish. Still have problems?
